Inns - Bed & Breakfasts
The Harbourview Inn
One of the most beautiful, elegant, luxurious places in Charleston.
This is just one of those places that just bends over backwards to make
you comfortable. Check out the website, the place is just beautiful and
so posh-looking. The wine & cheese in the afternoon, and the hot,
fresh -baked cookies & milk in the evening are what does me in...
Go. Just go there.
The Vendue Inn I
have to admit a weakness for the Vendue Inn. It's beauty and elegance
have charmed me. I'm dying to stay there for, well, forever. Afternoon wine & cheese.
Charleston, SC Bed & Breakfasts The site for two of my favorite Charleston B&B's. The Cannonboro Inn and the Ashley Inn.
These two b&bs are owned by the same family and are excellent. They
are well-run, elegant, and possess all the charm you would expect from
a Charleston inn. Besides that, the food is delicious!
The Palmer Home Bed & Breakfast
One of Charleston's greatest resources. This is a beautiful historic
home with lovely rooms and furnishings. I have performed a few weddings
there. Overlooking the two rivers. Highly recommended.
The Ansonborough Inn
A stellar reputation; this is one of the finest inns in Charleston.
It's elegant and warm. I want to stay there for my anniversary, but I
haven't been able to get a reservation!
The Elliot House Inn
This is just one of those beautiful historic Charleston houses. Watch
their video, I'm sure those are the owners! (Afternoon wine and cheese
alert!)
The Inn at Middleton Place
Okay, this place is so ginormous is really can't even be called an inn
anymore; it's more like a huge resort. Or an estate. I'm not crazy
about the house's architecture, it sort of clashes with the landscaping
and looks like a New-Age holistic healing center. But it's luxurious,
there are so many amenities, I lost count. They have an equestrian
center, okay? And the entire surrounding property is lovely.

Hotels
The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island World-Class oceanfront hotel, wonderful dining, breathtaking.
Holiday Inn Historic District
Unbelievably, this is a HOLIDAY INN. This is SO not your father's
Oldsmobile. I believe this is the Holiday Inn that all Holiday Inns
should strive to become. This hotel is so beautiful, I actually planned
a wedding in it. Ceremony, reception, honeymoon, the whole ball of wax.
The rooms are gorgeous, the courtyard is very pretty, the banquet
facilities are excellent, and the restaurant is so very Charleston-y. And,
incredibly, it's HOLIDAY INN, so even though it's downtown Charleston,
and as a result of that, it's expensive, it's still reasonable. (The
photos don't do it justice -- visit the place.)
Wild Dunes Wild
Dunes is an island resort, golf and tennis club, and a little world of
its own. I've done many weddings on the beaches there. Really gorgeous,
in a Disney-perfect sort of way. There's other stuff on Sullivan's
Island and Isle of Palm that is worth looking into, so Google them.
Charleston On The Beach
Okay, so this isn't exactly 5 stars, but it's a lot of fun. It's a
GIANT Holiday Inn right on Folly Beach, and every room has an ocean
view. Also, they are seconds away from like a gazillion activities,
like parasailing (yeah, I'm gonna do that), jetskis, rafts and boogie
board rentals. There are LOTS of places to go in Folly Beach, like bars
and clubs with live entertainment. It's a very fun place.
Other places of interest (Google the names for more details):
Seabrook Island. Loads of vacation homes, two 18-hole golf courses, tennis, gorgeous private beaches. Very exclusive. Everything is privately owned, therefore pristine and beautiful.
Kiawah Island. Another lovely private community. It's like a golf kingdom. It was the site of the 1991 Ryder Cup, and the movie "The Legend of Bagger Vance," was filmed there.
Edisto Beach and Edisto Island. Not so glamorous, less commercial, but great for beach-lovers and families. Not so many hotels (I think there is like, one, maybe.), but plenty of vacation homes to rent.
