Veils &  Headpieces

I highly recommend to any bride who is watching her budget that she make her own veil or headpiece.
This does not require you to attend any sewing classes at the local community college. There are patterns available
in craft or fabric stores all over the place (although the patterns run about $15 -- what's all that about?), there is
moderately priced tulle, there is lace, there are inexpensive combs, very nice beads and pearly-thingies for good prices.

Come to that, there are very simple veils available at craft stores and places like Walmart (!!!) that can be "dressed up"
a little with some pearls, lace, or silk flowers and you could still end up saving hundreds of dollars.

All of this is to say that you can make your very own veil or headpiece (or purchase a very inexpensive one at a discount store)
for a fraction of the cost of purchasing a similar one from a bridal store.  (Keep in mind the quality of the tulle in a packaged veil
from Walmart for $10 may not be quite as "silky" as that of those at the bridal store for, say, $265, but then again, you're not
wearing it as lingerie, AND you're not wearing it for 3 consecutive months, either.)

Just FYI folks, just recently (December 2006), I was at my friendly neighborhood Wallyworld and I purchased Tulle, very nice,
slightly "shiny" Tulle, for $1/yard, okay?! Is that cool or what? (This was in the fabric department, and it was on sale, but STILL.
They also have it by the BOLT. SAVE SAVE SAVE.)

I almost bought them out. I'm going to make a veil or two, just to SHOW you how easy it is. OH, incidentally, they had
adorable tiarras for $15. I bought one of those, too. I'm wearing it now. (Okay, I'm kidding. But I could be wearing it and you
wouldn't have known.) Still, I have my tiarra now, and it's just as nice (for real) as those very very very expensive bridal store ones.

Michaels -- Yes, this is a craft store. Check it out. You can actually buy VEILS at Michaels. Please, consider this before you
pay a bridal store $250 for a veil. Yes, there are some discount places (I have some links below). But WHY? When you can
do it for, like, $30.00?

AC Moore - Anothe craft giant.

Wedcraft - The best wedding craft how-to site online. You can tell them I said so. Check out the headpieces.

Walmart
- Hey, don't knock it. Walmart has some VERY cool stuff you can camouflage. There was a veil in the store for about $9.99. It needed to be steamed. Add a comb with pearls. Think about it.

JoAnn's Fabrics  - The larger stores have all sorts of bridal stuff; the website has EVERYTHING, even accessories, favors, champagne glasses.

Wedding Expressions Very nice bridal, bridesmaids, etc., gowns, plus accessories &; other things at discounted prices

Wedding Veils If you buy, this is the place with the deals.

Wedding Veils Dot Com  Not bad prices. Not as good as the one above.

Bridal Veil Creations  Custom headpieces. Even does cake topppers.
Interesting.

Vision Veils Nice tiarras & jewelry, too. A "wedding veil tutorial." Now, what's THAT all  about?

Bridal Headpieces I'm sorry to say that this site uses a very Pepto-Bismol colored background, and a lot of  animation on the site.
The owner seems nice, though, and so does her stuff.

Romantic Headlines They have some pretty good-looking pieces.

The Bridal People They carry all kinds of bridal accessories.

American Bridal Another site that seems to have everything.

Netbride A very cool site. Gowns for everyone, with supposed deep discounts. Another free planner available, too.

Outlet Bound A resource to find outlets, all kinds.

Now, here's an example of what I'm talking about:

The Ugly Veil.

*Out of respect to the Vendor,
I have deleted the link to the company who sells the Ugly Veil.*

This veil costs $56.
Can you explain what makes this a $56 veil?
I cannot.

What is it about this veil
that makes it more valuable than, say, the veil below, from Michaels?

At Michaels, you can purchase either an assembled veil for about $15, and add whatever frou-frou you like, or you can purchase tulle and make something like this. All for about $30-$35.

Do you see what I mean? Even if you hate Michael's Hydrangea Veil (it's not my taste, either) you can grasp the value problem of the first veil -- there ISN'T any. This is much the same issue with a great part of Weddingworld... Very little value for VERY MANY DOLLARS. So please, Gentle Reader, shop wisely...
