Inspiring Moments, Memorable Words, Enduring Promises

Local Charleston, SC, Area Photographers

Richard Bell Photography Nathan Bell is one of the finest photographers I have ever had the pleasure to work with. He is patient, generous, courteous, wise, and willing to give of himself and his time. I'm waiting anxiously for pictures from the February 2nd wedding that we did together, because I know that they will be spectacular. Richard Bell Photography has always been a fantastic studio, with a great reputation, and always a good bet as far as quality goes, and I was sure I had worked with them, but I went through some old wedding files last Friday (I keep records of the vendors) after meeting Nathan, and realized that I was wrong and I had NEVER worked with his dad. Sadly, he passed away recently. But I did get to meet Nathan this week at a rehearsal and wedding and he was a great help to me and the couple. He has a great work ethic and is not afraid to jump in and give a hand. I've grown very fond of him in a very short time. Thanks, Nathan, for helping make this wedding a great experience! (Send me some pictures of the Grady wedding, Dude!)

Airus Photography I recently (Nov. 2006) worked with these fine folks on a wedding in Beaufort, and I was very impressed by the professionalism, style, and general demeanor of the photographer (see his amazing work, below!). When you book Airus, you book your photographer for the entire day. You will not get a hurried photographer, rushing to get you through his arbitrary schedule. If you've ever been to a wedding in which it appeared that the photographer was "running the show," (I've been to too many of those!) you'll understand why this makes Airus Photography a good bet. Yes, we recommend him!

Thanks for the beautiful pictures, R.J.! These photos are courtesy of Airus Photography.

This is Michael and Kelly's wedding, at the Old Sheldon Church Ruins, Beaufort, SC.

Gnome Studios I worked with Naomi in October of 2006. She and her team are consummate professionals, and they do beautiful work. Thanks, Naomi!

Charleston Weddings, Etc. Some original looking work.

Candid Photos, Albums, & Scrapbooks & Assorted Items

Really, I didn't even want to start a section for this because... Well, you know. This could go on forever. But the fact is that you can get very inexpenve stuff for you wedding albums that you don't have to get from your photographer. That's one thing. Aside from that, most people spend way, way too much money on other stuff, as well.

So let me first advise you NOT to give out 50 or 100 disposable cameras to your guests. Especially those expensive "wedding" cameras. They cost a fortune and there is nothing special about them. If you want some guests to take candids, then do so. But don't spend a fortune. The $3.97 Fuji with Flash 400 Speed from Walmart works just as well as the ones that cost $10 each. Then, give a select few wise and trustworthy friends those disposable cameras and ask them to take "candid" shots. But here's the kicker, folks. Ask them -- NO, TELL THEM -- to WARN YOU FIRST. That way, they do not catch you with your mouth open, food in your mouth, your eyes crossed, or with your groom rolling his eyes at your mother. Very bad things happen when many people have control of many cameras. Yes, I'm telling you to POSE for your CANDID SHOTS.

A true wedding photo horror story: When David and I got married, my best friend and her husband, who are in the ministry, performed the wedding. It was very lovely. However, we do not have any photos, because guess who took the pictures? Two teenage girls that were living there at the time (they were foster kids, and are now long gone). I did not ask them, but they "volunteered" and grabbed up the cameras. As a result, I do not have a single respectable picture of myself and my husband on our wedding day. My mouth is open, my eyes are closed, there's cake in my face, there's cake in my husband's face, my daughter (who was my maid of honor, and my only attendant) is sticking her tongue out... The list is endless. I had to computer generate 3 or 4 fake pictures to send to my new inlaws, but they still were terrible. I have nothing to put in my albums. What's worse, I immediately gained weight out of my dress, so I can't even get posed shots done. What a drag.

Learn from me, my Little Ones!
